TAMPA - Jesuit outlasted a strong Lakeland Kathleen fourth-quarter surge and a last-second pass to capture a dramatic victory.

With 0.2 seconds remaining, Kathleen trailed 14-7 and was 16 yards away from tying the game when Jesuit coach James Harrell called a timeout to set up the defense in an effort to contain quarterback Isaac O'Neal on the final play.

"I just knew we had to get some pressure on (O'Neal)," Harrell said. "I knew if he scrambled then he might be able to find someone in the end zone."

O'Neal did find someone in the end zone as he was forced from the pocket by the Jesuit pass rush. But the Tigers' Derrick Friga intercepted O'Neal's pass as time expired and the Jesuit sideline erupted as the entire team swarmed the field in celebration.

"I am just happy how we finished," Harrell said. "Bend, don't break."

The Jesuit defense recorded six sacks, including three by Parker Clonts.

Harrell said his son, linebacker Anthony Harrell, was held out for "precautionary reasons" and the school is still waiting for an official FHSAA ruling on his son's transfer.
