Once his receivers started hanging on, the rout was on. O’Neal completed six consecutive passes the rest of the first half, four of them for touchdowns, and the Red Devils pounded Auburndale, 52-8, Friday night before a crowd of about 1,000 at Johnny Johnson Stadium. O’Neal finished 7 of 12 for 128 yards, all in the first half when the Red Devils stormed out to 38-0 lead. He added a 20-yard rushing touchdown in the second half, playing just the first possession. The passing softened up Auburndale’s defense, as the running game got going too after Kathleen grabbed the lead. The Red Devils added 251 yards rushing, led by Terry Bentley (six carries, 79 yards) and Marcale Corley (5-77). After faltering — all five incompletions came on the first drive — Kathleen needed just three plays to score on its second drive. O’Neal hit back-to-back 15-yard passes to Aaron Baysdon, the second one being for a touchdown. O’Neal then threw two touchdown passes to Jarvis Washington, split up by a Terrick Colston’s 15-yard interception return, as the Red Devils surged to a 26-0 lead early in the second quarter. The Bloodhounds had five turnovers in the first half. |
