Courtesy: KHSFootball.com The 2010 Golf Tournament held at Huntington Hills Golf & Country Club wouldn't have been as successful without the help of event organizer Mr. Bob Newman. Mr. Newman's grandson, former Kathleen offensive lineman Austin Hancock, graduated in 2007. However, Mr. Newman still finds the time to help out the program when he can and the Golf Tournament was organized by him for the third straight year.
KHSFootball.com: How long have you been working the Kathleen Golf Tournament? Mr. Newman: "This will be 3 years."
KHSFootball.com: What is your role with the football team? Mr. Newman: "I am actually not affiliated with the program, but I do volunteer and support the team." Coach Strickland then told Mr. Newman that he was an honorary coach.
KHSFootball.com: Your grandson is former Kathleen lineman, Austin Hancock. Even though he is no longer playing, what keeps you around helping the football program? Mr. Newman: "I was a graduate of Kathleen in '71. I want to see the team win a championship. We were close last year and pretty close around the time I was in high school."
KHSFootball.com: Do you host any other golf tournaments? Mr. Newman: "I help with the National Kidney Foundation and also the local United Way's tournaments."
KHSFootball.com: Would you like to send a message to the team? Mr. Newman: "I seen how capable the team last year was to bringing home a championship. Whatever that team brought into their summer workouts really showed into the season. There was a never give up attitude. If the team this year does the same I believe they will be hugely successful. They already have the nucleus to go all the way."
When you surround yourself with good people around the program you can't help but be successful. KHSFootball.com and the entire Kathleen football staff would like to thank Mr. Newman for all of his help this year and in years past.
