Scoring four touchdowns on drives that started inside the 20, including two inside the 10, Kathleen routed George Jenkins, 58-23, Friday night at Veterans Stadium before 2,500 fans. After Jaucady Rutledge scored on a 6-yard pass from George Jenkins quarterback Billy Muscatello early in the third quarter that made it a 24-15 game, Kathleen pulled away thanks to back-to-back turnovers. First Gionni Paul recovered a fumble then Terrick Colston intercepted Muscatello. Those turnovers set up scoring runs of 4 yards and 2 yards by Terry Bentley that increased the Red Devils' lead to 38-15 in less than a minute. Bentley, who finished with 96 yards on 26 carries, added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. For the game, Kathleen (5-0) forced seven turnovers and blocked a punt that set up its last touchdown. "I have to credit our defense," Kathleen coach Irving Strickland said. "I told our kids before the season. Defense is going to carry us throughout the season." The early turnovers put George Jenkins (2-3), in a hole. Muscatello was intercepted by Chad Abrams on the first play of the game that gave Kathleen the ball at the 19. Helped by a 10-yard run by Bentley, it took Kathleen five plays to score with quarterback Isaac O'Neal sneaking in from the 1. Muscatello threw his second interception four plays into the Eagles' next possession, and Derek Lewis returned it to the 13 for another short scoring drive. Next week, Kathleen is at Haines City, while Jenkins is at Osceola.
