Spring Rewind: Running Backs
|

Courtesy: KHSFootball.com Depth will be a problem in the fall at the running back postion for Kathleen. There are no returning players for the 2009 season, but Javier Maturin has made the switch from defense to help fill the role. Joining Maturin will be sophomore, Terry Bentley. In the spring Javier was, "a little ahead of Terry," according to Coach Strickland. The varsity experience that Javier brings is one factor. "He has a better understanding of the offense which is important," Coach Strickland said. However, Coach Strickland is confident Terry Bentley will pick up on things quickly. Strickland even mentioned that Maturin didn't have a lock on the starting position because, although he knows the basics of the offense, he needs to continue to work to become a better running back. One of Coach Strickland's goals is to rotate his running backs in order to keep them fresh during games. It will be interesting to see if the new crop of running backs will be able to produce more yards during the 2009 season to help bring a more balanced offensive attack back to Kathleen.
