It was an emotional day in the media center at Kathleen High as Chad Abram, Andrew Jackson and Marcus Cunningham all signed letters of intent on Wednesday.

Abram signed with Florida State, Jackson with Western Kentucky and Cunningham with Florida Atlantic.

Cunningham, a second-team All-County selection was the more emotional of the three.

Slated to play receiver, the 6-foot-1, 170-pound Cunningham said he chose FAU because of its business program.

‘This is real special to me,’ Cunningham said, while wiping away tears. ‘This just proves hard work pays off.’

The 6-foot Abram grew up a Seminole fan so his choice was easy. He is slated to play safety at FSU.

‘One thing coach (Irving Strickland) said was to go to a school that I could see myself at the next four to five years,’ Abram said. ‘When I went up there for junior day and I loved it up there. It was like another home.’

The 6-foot-1, 235-pound Jackson will play linebacker at Western Kentucky.

‘I’m trying to explain this feeling,’ Jackson said. ‘I never really saw myself signing a Division I scholarship.’

All three said they expected to have a chance to play right away. Strickland said all three are eligible to play right away.

‘As a coach, this is emotional and special,’ Strickland said. ‘This is why you get into coaching to help the guys. We had these guys come in as ninth graders. Now, they have an opportunity to leave out as young men, go on to great institutions and earn a college degree. That is what makes it special for us.’
