Drive by Kathleen High School this summer and you won't just hear the sounds of pads popping.

Tractors bulldozing, hammers driving and cement laying also is evident as far as the I-4 exit.

Kathleen's campus is undergoing a major facelift and the biggest projects are nearly complete.

A $14.6 million administration building is getting the finishing touches. A new football fieldhouse complete with locker rooms, weight rooms and offices is also part of the rebuilding project. This isn't just a remodeling job, it's a rebuilding job and given the state of the old facilities, no other high school deserves it more than Kathleen.

With new facilities on the way, the football program has it's own rebuilding job. The Red Devils plan on rebuilding pride and football morale after their state championship hopes were taken away in 2009. The Red Devils were a perfect 8-0 when the FHSAA forced the program to forfeit six games due to fielding an academically ineligible player. As preparations continue for the upcoming season, the Red Devils play with that missed opportunity in mind.

And they have the talent to back up the chip on their shoulder pads.

15 of 22 starters return.

Seniors including quarterback Isaac O'Neal, linebacker Gionni Paul, and running back/athlete Terrick Colston say nothing less than a state championship will be acceptable for this Kathleen team. Also getting major attention is wideout Jacques Mackeroy. The UCF commit should have a monster season catching the football.

Irving Strickland enters his 4th year as Red Devils' head coach but hints this could be his most talented team yet. BHSN spent the day on campus and found a team ready to claim their first ever state title.
